Repair your pavement

Asphalt Maintenance Service has the knowledge and experience to correctly identify the causes of your pavement failures and specify the most effective solution for repairing defective areas.

Pavement fails for a number of reasons, but the main causes are:

Poor Construction
When your asphalt was laid, the deteriorating portion could have had a poor sub-base or the asphalt was a little thinner in this area.

Oxidation by Sunlight
Sunlight evaporates the oils and binders in the mix, drying out the pavements (the gray color).

Water Erosion
Hairline cracks start to develop allowing water to seep in and further erode the surface. (This is when seal coating and crack filling should be done).



If left unchecked, the cracks will worsen until water starts to erode the base material and potholes form. Also, cracks will start to connect causing an "alligator" type cracking. This will allow, over time, pieces of asphalt to work loose, exposing large sections of the deteriorated area.

The deteriorated area needs to be treated with these steps:

• Saw cut the worn area to full depth
• The deteriorated asphalt should be removed
• A hot bituminous mix should be applied at correct temperature tolerances
• The mix needs to be compacted to correct densities to achieve a proper patch or it will quickly deteriorate again.
